Yesterday marked our (=> PGP Batch of 2008-2010) the completion of our first week at WIMWI. So the profs decided to celebrate that with us with a surprise Probability quiz with us. Fair enough, 'cause the tuchchas(=>2nd year guys) had told us that traditionally there are no surprise quizes in the first week. I love the way they play with the boundaries of being absolutely honest and being an absolutely kamina insaan here...ooh there's sooo much to learn!!
I loved every single second of my first week. The schedules are hectic, the workload is high, and on an average one gets 4 to 6 hours of sleep a day. But the professors are insanely awesome, the case-method of study makes each and every class an experience, the mess food is absolutely fabulous and the dorms (I mean, the new ones, at least) are pretty cool. Everything's so much bang on time here. If a class starts at 08:45, you are expected to be there by 08:44:59. Otherwise, you are not just absent for the class - the prof might just chuck you out of the course as well! Sounds scary, but at the same time makes you feel so important - the respect for one's time works from either directions - ah! makes me feel so important!! The students have tremendous respect for the professors, and nobody takes anything lightly. Everyone means business, everyone's a professional, nobody's out here to have fun at someone else's expense, no one is above the system. Sometime's things go wrong - but everyone's trying his/her best not to make it that way. It's might have to do something with the students being more mature, might be due to the iron hand with which they rule here. Whatever it is, I'm loving it. If only such a culture existed in IITs too...
